West Secondary Clarifier rebuild

This project involves the rehabilitation of the West Secondary Clarifier at the Wastewater Treatment Resource Recovery Facility (WWTRRF) for the City of Pendleton. This includes work to the existing clarifier mechanism, repair of cracks in the concrete stump, Installation of pressure relief valves in the clarifier floor and other equipment, as well as startup and testing of all materials.

This part of a larger project working with Keller Associates for planning and design improvements at the Resource Recovery Facility.  The rehabilitation of the wastewater treatment plant digester, secondary clarifier, and new modern operational buildings will provide significant long-term benefits to the community by improving treatment reliability, protecting public health, and enhancing environmental stewardship. Collectively, these improvements will extend the life of critical infrastructure, support future population and economic growth, reduce long-term operating costs, and ensure the community continues to receive reliable wastewater treatment services that protect public health and the environment for decades to come.

Funding

The costs will come from the Sewer Funds as part of the Clean Water State Revolving Fund Loan that was received.

Why It's Needed

Originally constructed in 1942, the complex underwent significant upgrades and new construction in 1952 and 1972, with a minor upgrade completed in 2010. However, many of the critical issues were not addressed at that time and will now be resolved through this project.
