Why It's Needed
This project replaces and upsizes existing water features currently serving the airport area that is not adequate for increased development. The 8-inch cast iron water main, for example, is being replaced by 24-inch ductile iron pipe and 18-inch C905 pipe; the new airport reservoir provides new storage for the City's gravity water pressure zone and serves as storage for the airport pressure zone. The new airport booster station will provide for industrial growth opportunities underway at the airport industrial parks.

Milestone Description

Contractor began physical installation of two more drives the week of Jan. 22.  Once the two additional electrical drives are installed and complement the one electrical drive already installed, City and Contractor will begin start-up and testing of the new booster pump station.  Tentatively, start-up activities are scheduled to begin the week of January 29th.  With just three of the five electrical drives installed, the new booster pump station will have more capacity to serve the airport industrial areas than the existing two 1940s vintage booster pump stations.  Contractually, the new booster pump station must operate continuously for 7 calendar days without interruption before the Contractor can begin demolition of the two 1940s vintage booster stations and the 1970s vintage steel reservoirs.

City and Contractor are expecting the final two electrical drives to ship the week of January 29th.  Once they are on-site, Contractor will install the remaining two drives and City and Contractor will perform additional start-up activities.
