Southeast Community Connector

Pendleton’s Southeast Community Connector project would extend Perkins Avenue to Tutuilla Road to offer a complete, alternate route for the southeast area of Pendleton. Currently, local residential traffic in the southeast area of Pendleton can only reach daily destinations in southwest Pendleton by first traveling north along an inefficient route through the congested Southgate Interchange. The only other east-west connection lies several miles to the south. Providing direct access would reduce many common trips by two miles, helping lower fuel use, costs, and emissions. The alternate route would also alleviate pressure on the Southgate Interchange, which faces heavy congestion facilitating traffic between key freight routes of US 395 and Interstate 84.

The extension will also access to approximately 100 acres of undeveloped residential zoned land needed for constructing new homes including mixed-residential housing and apartment units that will provide options for all members of the community. Moreover, the project will enhance community livability by adding bike lanes and sidewalks and providing better access for local transit service and school buses throughout southeast Pendleton. This project is part of the long-term Exit 209 Interchange Plan.

Why It's Needed
