Pendleton Airport Alternate Runway Improvements
The City of Pendleton is seeking funding for the construction of a grass landing strip at the Eastern Oregon Regional Airport, which would provide a safe and cost-effective alternative to traditional paved runways. Many general aviation pilots and certain UAS vehicles prefer to take off and land on turf, especially for tailwheel aircraft, certain vintage models, and ultralights. Furthermore, a grass landing strip would be environmentally friendly and would not require the use of heavy machinery or asphalt.

Why It's Needed
Once complete, the grass runway will help increase the number of UAS tests and attract more general aviation pilots to the airport, thereby increasing the airport’s revenue, boosting the local economy, and providing opportunity across the burgeoning aviation industry in Pendleton.
